If you need an electrician near you, somewhere around Prahran, South Yarra, Richmond or the surrounding inner south-east, Smartlec Electrical Solutions is genuinely local to you. Martin Turnbull has run Smartlec as a licensed A-Grade electrical contractor since 2017, completing more than 3,000 jobs with a small team for homes and businesses across Melbourne. This work includes a wide range of different services, including general electrical, split system air conditioning installation and EV charger installation.
The suburbs we cover are below, as well as services available and how to get a firm price before any work begins. If you already know the suburb and the service, jump straight to the coverage grid.
Most electricians near you will handle the wiring, but not the cooling or the charger. Smartlec handles all three because Martin holds an A-Grade electrician licence and is licensed to install split systems, so the dedicated circuit, the switchboard capacity check and the unit itself are one booking rather than two or three separate trades to coordinate.
The electrical side covers everything a home or business in the inner south-east is likely to need. Switchboard upgrades for boards that have run out of room, complete rewiring on older homes where the original wiring was never sized for modern loads, power point installation, downlight and LED lighting upgrades, safety switch fitting and RCD testing. When the power drops or a breaker keeps tripping, Martin will trace the fault and quote the fix before any work starts.
Residential electrical services run from a single power point through to a full building rewire and mains upgrade. Commercial electrical work covers data cabling, emergency lighting, wiring for shopfronts and office fit-outs. If you are buying, selling or renting, Smartlec also carries out electrical safety checks for compliance under Victorian rental regulations.
A split system installation is half cooling and half electrical. The unit needs its own dedicated circuit, an isolating switch and enough capacity left in the switchboard to carry the load safely. Having the electrician and the installer be the same licensed person keeps the job simpler, the quote clearer and the accountability in one place. If the board needs an upgrade to handle the new circuit, that is quoted and carried out as part of the same job.
Smartlec supplies and fits single-head and multi-head split systems, sizes each head to the room it serves, and handles VEU rebate paperwork for eligible installations. VEU rebates are available and eligibility depends on the property, the existing system and the type of upgrade being carried out.
A home EV charger is an electrical job before it is anything else. The circuit runs from the board to the wall, the switchboard capacity, the supply phase and whether the mains can carry the additional draw all need to be confirmed before anything is mounted. Smartlec scopes the supply, runs the dedicated circuit, handles any board upgrade and fits the charger as one fixed-price job. Whether the car parks in a garage, a carport or on a street-facing driveway, the quote covers the full path from switchboard to wall unit.
Households getting off gas often combine a charger with an induction cooktop upgrade or heat pump wiring in the same visit, which keeps the switchboard work to one appointment rather than two.

Operating since 2017, Smartlec is based at 23 Regent St, Prahran VIC 3181, and covers the inner south-east within a 30 km radius. Our hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The inspection fee is $99 to come out and look at the work. That $99 is waived in full the moment you proceed with the job, so the assessment costs you nothing if the work goes ahead.
For electrical jobs, the inspection covers a look at the switchboard, the existing wiring and the scope of work needed. For a split system, it includes measuring the room, checking board capacity and confirming where the outdoor unit can sit. For an EV charger, it means verifying the supply phase, the cable run distance and whether the board has headroom for a 7 kW or 22 kW circuit.
The price you are quoted after that inspection is the price you pay, whether it is a single power point or a full switchboard upgrade with a split system and a charger on the same ticket.
No hourly rate surprises, no hidden call-out fees, and no work starts without a written, fixed quote you can hold us to.
Smartlec services 10 suburbs from the Prahran base. Each suburb below links to a dedicated page for that service in that location, with local detail on what the job involves, common issues for homes in that area and how the quote works.
If your suburb is not listed but falls within inner south-east Melbourne, call and ask. The 30 km radius from Prahran reaches further than the 10 suburbs above, and plenty of jobs fall just outside these boundaries.
Two ways to get a price:
Tell us the job, the suburb and whether it is a home or a business. If it is a split system, mention the rooms you want cooled. If it is a charger, mention the car and where it parks. A fixed quote comes back before any work starts, and the $99 inspection is waived the moment you go ahead. One trade, one quote, one person accountable for the result.
